CheckIn 1.0.21 ReadMe

The time-bomb has been removed. CheckIn will now simply remind you to get a newer version after some months. It is highly recommended to always use the latest version available on CheckIn's FTP.

Since January 1st 2001, you need a license number to use CheckIn. This license number can be obtained by registering CheckIn. Unregistered version will allow testing (each task will accept a maximum of 5 pilots).

For more details on how to register CheckIn, see CheckIn homepage on the web at http://www.cquest.org/checkin/ or go directly to CheckIn secured online order form.

Track log export now allows export to IGC format. When requested for a filename, CheckIn will export to IGC file format if the filename ends by ".IGC".

Results

Race 2000 export now always exports the best pilot position when "Use best pilot position" is selected in the Competition Setup (default).

What was new in CheckIn 1.0.19 ?

General

Competition Setup

Cylinders are now the default type of turnpoints. The default size is 400m radius.

A new "Max Time Interval" field allows to define the maximum allowed time between two tracklog points. Points with more than this interval of time are not checked using interpolation or extrapolation, nor track crossing sector.

The "slow serial port" checkbox has been renamed "slow MLR". When checked, MLR protocol transfers are limited to 19200bps instead of 38400bps.

Added a new "Fast Garmin" checkbox which allows tracklog downloads to be up to 3 times faster (EXPERIMENTAL). If you encounter problem, please report them and uncheck this box.

Registration

Added multiple pilot waypoint check during waypoint uploads. This allows to detect GPS already having a different pilot waypoint defined. In such case, you must delete it from the GPS waypoint before uploading the competition waypoint. This is done to avoid having more than one pilot waypoint in each pilot GPS.

MLR protocol based GPS serial numbers are now stored in a more readable way.

Task setup

The start size is now correctly displayed in the list of turnpoints.

Run-Report (Tracklog download)

Bad GPS communications do not display previously unwanted error messages.

Multiple pilot waypoints are now also checked (same as during registration). In case of more than one pilot waypoint defines, please delete the unwanted pilot waypoint(s).

Huge speed improvements when the datafile is getting large thanks to much less hard disk accesses. This allows better support of faster GPS (MLR, Dataloggers, etc).

Improved support for Garmin eTrex, eMap and Garmin 76. At the end of some tracklog download an error message was displayed indicating that some points were missing. This is fixed. Be sure not to save the tracklog in the GPS as this will remove a lot of points and will also clear the timestamps.

Flight check (Manual Check)

Better interpolation computations for goal line. The same interpolation/extrapolation is used as for goal cylinders.

Results

No change.

What was new in CheckIn 1.0 beta 18 ?

General

Added support for Garmin eTrex, eMap and Garmin 76.

Added support for a fifth GPS.

Competition Setup

Added a "slow serial port" button to limit MLR protocol downloads to 19200 bps (recommended in this version).

Registration

Added the date/time check on the Garmin GPS. A message is displayed if the date is incorrect in the connected Garmin GPS. This allows to detect malfunctionning GPS who have lost the current date/time (Garmin bug or internal backup battery problem).

Task setup

Added "Goal Time" field to support Max Goal Time. If pilot reaches goal after goal time, with most rules, he will only gets distance points and no time points. CheckIn results exported to Race2000 are now supporting goal time.

Fixed a bug when "Big cylinder around TP#1" were selected. Fixed also a bug in the size of the goal in the list of turnpoints (the size shown in the list was the turnpoint size, not the goal size).

Run-Report (Tracklog download)

The pilot name and GPS serial number are now displayed while downloading TrackLogs.

The error message "A tracklog has already been downloaded for this pilot" now includes the pilot ID and name.

Flight check (Manual Check)

"Draw pilot track" better displays big cylinders around TP#1 (they are not covering the remaining of the task as before).

Goal line are now displayed in the "Draw turnpoints" option.

Results

Race2000 export now support goal time (see above).

What was new in CheckIn 1.0 beta 17 ?

General

Critical bug fix in all GPS communications that were doing a lot of unwanted "beep" (debug code not removed) and were causing very slow downloads and could cause some crashes.

CheckIn now displays a warning message during startup when the license number is not valid anymore (date before or after CheckIn license number validity).

Competition Setup

"Full Export" now export new data introduced in the recent versions of CheckIn.

Registration

Remove the date/time check on the Garmin GPS. This feature needs more tests.

What was new in CheckIn 1.0 beta 16 ?

General

Timebomb removed (see above).

A tool called "4D Tools" is now included with CheckIn to repair damaged datafiles.

How to use it ?

  1. Launch "4D Tools" and select the current CheckIn version you were using when the datafile was damaged.
  2. Select your damaged datafile
  3. In the "Utilities" menu, select "Check and recover...", then in the dialog select "Check only and create log" and click on the "OK" button.
  4. After some time, if you get a dialog telling you that everything is OK, you datafile can be used immediately after quitting "4D Tools"
  5. If you get a message telling that some error was found, you can use the second option called "Check and fix damaged records and indexes".
  6. You will have to indicate the location and name of a new datafile that will be created from the damaged one.

Competition Setup

Import of waypoints from Race "Export Task..." files.

CheckIn now verifies that the date/time in the GPS matches the date/time on the computer. This allows to detect mulfunctioning GPS that need date/time initialization and bad date/time and time zone setup on the computer or in CheckIn.

Registration

CheckIn now verifies that the date/time in the GPS matches the date/time on the computer. This allows to detect mulfunctioning GPS that need date/time initialization.

Task setup

Added a new field to allow to set the goal cylinder size. If the size is 0, the goal is handled as a perpendicular line from the last TP on the goal coordinates, otherwise, it is a cylinder around the goal coordinates.

Run-Report (Tracklog download)

Bug fix in MLR tracklog download code. CheckIn could display an error (invalid character reference) in some cases.

MARK/ENTER on MLR GPS are now included in the flight verification like tracklog points.

A bug in MLR GPS software revision 2.3 caused CheckIn not to download the first 26 points of a tracklog. A workaround has been added to solve this.

MLR download speed has been doubled (38400bps instead of 19200bps). Now up to 4000 tracklog points can be downloaded in 30s !

Flight check (Manual Check)

When using cylinders, track crossing the cylinder (yellow display) was not handled properly. It is fixed.

Goal time and start time are now using interpolation and extrapolation between the last two points (out or in) and the first point (in or out). Only points with a maximum interval of 30s are used for interpolation and/or extrapolation. For start, only interpolation is used between the last point in start and the first outside. In the visual turn-point display, the interpolated times are shown between parenthesis. Example:

Start Example:
OK @ 14:15:10
OK @ 14:15:20
(Start @ 14:15:23)

Goal Example:
(Goal @ 16:22:17)
OK @ 16:22:30
OK @ 16:22:50

OziExplorer track export (Export Track checkbox) now exports the altitude in feet instead of meters and includes the track name (TaskID + pilot number).

Results

Bug fix in Race2000 export. The task ID (used by Race) wasn't valid if more than one task was defined.

What was new in CheckIn 1.0 beta 15 ?

What was new in CheckIn 1.0 beta 14 ?

This new version of Checkin contains the following changes: important bug fix in the geographic license number verification

General

No change

Competition Setup

- New check box to allow to export the best pilot position to Race2000

- New "OK" button to allow to save changes in the Competition Setup in any screen and not only in the third and last one

- provision for a new "Accept unsafe MARK/ENTER" check box (will be implemented in the next version of CheckIn)

Registration

No change

Task setup

- Task definition has been enhanced on several points:

Run-Report

Start is now checked in all cases.

Flight check (Manual Check)

The full flight now shows the cylinders with their actual size.

The TP detailed graphic scale has been changed for small cylinders to avoid a useless scale to be used.

The area where the flight check result is displayed has been doubled (2 lines instead of one).

Results

Export to Race2000 was not exporting the "best pilot position". This "best position" will only be exported if the "Use best pilot position" check box is checked in the Competition Setup screen.

What was new in CheckIn 1.0 beta 13 ?

General

Two new languages have been added: German and Italian (some messages can still appear in english).

Competition Setup

- The control on sector/cylinder size has been changed (it was impossible to set a cylinder with a radius lower than 500m)

- GPS Setup: a new "Test" button has been added for all 4 GPS to allow to check that the setup is correct. On Windows, the COM port number (COM1, COM2, COM3, etc) has been added in the list of serial ports to simplify setup.

- The official list of waypoints can now also be downloaded from an MLR GPS (previously, it could only be downloaded from a Garmin GPS)

- When importing a new list of pilot from Race2000, if you choose not to delete the previous list of pilots in CheckIn, the list of pilot will just be updated and previous data collected (like GPS serial number or GPS uploaded flag) will not be changed.

Registration

- The pilot registration screen now contains a new "Send WP to GPS#2" to allow to prepare the pilot GPS using the Garmin and the MLR protocol (by setting up GPS#1 and GPS#2).

- This screen also contains a new checkbox to show that the pilot GPS has been uploaded, and a larger field for the serial number.

Task setup

- Task definition has been enhanced on several points:

Run-Report

- enhanced support of MLR protocol :

Flight check (Manual Check)

- FAI Sector and cylinder radius are now drawn based on the radius entered in the competition setup. With previous versions, CheckIn was using this value when checking track log points, but not to draw the grey circle that represent the cylinder around the TP.

Results

- Race2000 export has been enhanced. CheckIn now allows to export only the new flight verification results computed since last Race2000 export. This allows to export results in several steps without erasing changes that could be done manually in Race2000.
